She is stricken with pneumonia and believes that she will die as soon as the last leaf of the vine outside her window falls to the ground, Sue – young artist from Maine who is Joanna’s closest friend. She cooks for her and take good care of her while convincing her not to be depressed with her illness. , Behrman – an old artist who lives downstairs of Joanna and Sue’s apartment. He was an alcoholic man but cares for Joanna and Sue, Doctor – a very busy man who treats Joanna and Sue. He found out that Joanna has mental and physical illness and told Sue that he cannot help Joanna since she is not drinking hee medicine to get better. He is not convinced that an unfulfilled artistic ambitions had caused Joanna’s depression so she asked Sue if Joanna has been depressed over a man. He visits Joanna again after she had recovered and gave her a good prognosis.
