Ask: 1. How to test a resistor?
2. How to test a capacitor?
3. How to test a transformer?
4. How to test a diode?

Answer:

1. How to test a resistor?

There are two ways of testing a resistor: using an analog or digital multimeter. Normally if a resistor fails they will either increase in value or open circuit. You can check the resistor resistance by selecting the ohmmeter range in the analog and digital multimeter. If the resistor is in circuit, you will generally have to remove the resistors in  the board so you are testing only the resistor value and not the other components in the circuit.

2.How to test a capacitor?

to test a Capacitor and find out whether the capacitor is working properly or it is a defective one. A Capacitor is an Electronics/Electrical component that stores energy in the form of Electric Charge. Capacitors are often used in electronics circuit boards or few electrical appliances and perform a variety of functions.

3.How to test a transformer?

To test your transformer, simply touch the red and black pins of your ohmmeter to the opposite ends of the transformer’s wiring. Read the display and compare the resistance on your ohmmeter to the resistance stated on the transformer’s data sheet.

4. How to test a diode?

There are many checks we can do to see if a diode is functioning the way it should. We will use and exploit the characteristics and behaviors that a diode should show if it is good and, in thus doing so, determine whether is good or defective.

A very good test you can do is to check a diode with your multimeter set to the ohmmeter setting.

This is a simple test we can do to check whether it is good, open, or shorted. So we take the ohmmeter and place it across the leads of the diode. The orientation is very important.

4. How to test a Capacitor:

Ask: 4. How to test a Capacitor:

Answer:

1.Use your digital multimeter (DMM) to ensure all power to the circuit is OFF. If the capacitor is used in an ac circuit, set the multimeter to measure ac voltage. If is used in a dc circuit, set the DMM to measure dc voltage.

2.Visually inspect the capacitor. If leaks, cracks, bulges or other signs of deterioration are evident, replace the capacitor.

3.Turn the dial to the Capacitance Measurement mode. The symbol often shares a spot on the dial with another function. In addition to the dial adjustment, a function button usually needs to be pressed to activate a measurement. Consult your multimeter’s user manual for instructions..

4. For a correct measurement, the capacitor will need to be removed from the circuit. Discharge the capacitor as described in the warning above.

5.Connect the test leads to the capacitor terminals. Keep test leads connected for a few seconds to allow the multimeter to automatically select the proper range.

6.Read the measurement displayed. If the capacitance value is within the measurement range, the multimeter will display the capacitor’s value. It will display OL if a) the capacitance value is higher than the measurement range or b) the capacitor is faulty.

In testing capacitor,if the multimeter shows very low resistance,it means

Ask: In testing capacitor,if the multimeter shows very low resistance,it means that the capacitor is____.

Answer:

A multimeter or a multitester, also known as a volt/ohm meter or VOM, is an electronic measuring instrument that combines several measurement functions in one unit.

How do you check if a capacitor is bad with a multimeter?

To test the capacitor with a multimeter, set the meter to read in the high ohms range, somewhere above 10k and 1m ohms. Touch the meter leads to the corresponding leads on the capacitor, red to positive and black to negative. The meter should start at zero and then moving slowly toward infinity.

Procedures on how to test a capacitor?

Ask: Procedures on how to test a capacitor?

Answer:

1. Disconnect the suspected capacitor from the power supply or make sure at least one lead of the capacitor is disconnected.

2. Make sure that the capacitor is fully discharged.

3. Connect two separate leads to the capacitor terminals. (Optional)

4. Now safely connect these leads to 230 V AC Supply for a very short period (about 1-4 Sec) [or for a short time where the Voltage rise to 63.2% of the Source Voltage] .

5. Remove safety leads from the 230 V AC Supply.

6. Now short the capacitor terminals (Please be careful to do that and make sure that you have wear safety goggles)

7. If it makes a strong spark, then the capacitor is good.

8. If it makes a weak spark, then it is a bad capacitor and change it immediately with a new one.

Ask: Reflection
Why is it we need to familiarize and understand on how to test capacitor?

Answer:

. A capacitor is a small (most of the time) electrical/electronics component on most circuit boards that can perform various functions. When a capacitor is placed in a circuit with an active current, electrons from the negative side build up on the closest plate

Not only you can get the answer of how test capacitor, you could also find the answers of Procedures on how, POST ASSESSMENT Direction:, Importance of knowing, 1. How to, and ReflectionWhy is it.
