…orange wednesday…

random-ness.

1. every time i want to drive somewhere i have to get in the van from the passenger-side door because mine is jammed. the dealership says it will cost a couple hundred dollars to fix. maybe climbing in from the other door isn’t so bad after all.

2. to top it off, sam left food in our fancy van overnight and it smells like throw-up in there. (not like it didn’t smell that way already).

3. after refusing to buy any of the mulled over, rejected, $40 costumes at target, my sister suggested i dress samuel like linus (charlie brown) because his blanket smells like old man and he always seems to have a coat of dust about him. is that a compliment, a slight jab, or a free costume? not sure how to interpret that.

4. not a day goes by that i don’t feel guilty about what i feed my children.

5. it takes me about an hour to fall asleep every night.

6. i am seriously obsessing over regina spektor right now. where has she been my whole life?!!?

7. i return about 1/2 of the clothes i buy. and i constantly think about returning the other 1/2.

8. letting manoah use the ‘kids training cart” at vons was a serious error on my part as a parent.

9. watching my 16 month old climb bunk beds alone just about gave me a heart attack.

10. outside of  church sunday i listened to a close friend share her deepest fears and i saw her heart… made me feel like i was really at church.

11. there are 3 baskets of unfolded clean clothes in the hallway that i have been stepping over for 5 days.

12. sam just confessed that he doesn’t like soup.  that is the only meal i brought into this marriage. crock pot: pour the broth, throw in the chicken, add the spices and press start. after 5 years of soup, he just confessed.

13. i love when the weather changes. we can’t get enough of it here in san diego. we get so excited about it! we talk about with the  starbucks barista, watch the news, weather updates, facebook about it, and now i’m blogging about it. kind of weird.

14. i spelled my best friend’s son’s name wrong on his birthday card. but the girl who made his birthday cake spelled it wrong on his cake. that made me feel better. (it was a delicious cake though, kara)

15. i cried leaving my friends house the other night. it was a moment when i let the reality of who i am, with my issues, and insecurities surface. self-awareness is painful.

16. we watched Leap Year and we loved it. in retrospect i’m thinking we must have been really tired because we laughed. a lot.

17. when i run out of things to check on the internet, i wonder what i’m really looking for. what could i find, read, or discover that could distract me from me. nothing.

18. i am SO excited about launching my new site, blog, and name in a few weeks. yes, new name. it’s gonna be good!

19. and my internet is down. hence the reason for no picture today. cox. grrrr.

20. is anyone really still reading this?

to the reader who leaves the most random comment about their life, i’ll send a $10 itunes gift card. with deep hopes that you will download miss regina.

Miss Carol : ) - As a very, very, completely amature "face painter". . . what do you say to a three year old boy (. . . .Manoah), who looks you right in the eye and requests that you paint his face. . . IRON MAN. . . and with every confidence in his honest eyes, believes I can do this? Just pray and start painting.October 28, 2010 - 7:42 pm

kelley - ok, so here are my random thoughts everyday when i walk back from the mailbox- "dear meg, jerry and everyone else running for some kind of office in california, esco, and beyond- i appreciate all the excellent reading material, but i think you pretty much covered it. i'll take it from here, and don't worry, i don't need any more flyers. thanks and good luck, kelley."October 25, 2010 - 12:17 am

Sarah - OMG I love Regina too! and I love your work!!!October 23, 2010 - 12:37 am

Sarah - OMG I love Regina too!! And I love your work!!!October 23, 2010 - 12:36 am

Becky Flees - My whole family left for a week-long cruise to the Carribean today, except me and my sister Lourie. My sister Annie moved to Spain 4 months ago but was flying into Miami for the cruise today. Lourie and I were bummed that we would not get to see our sister with the rest of the family. At the request of our friend Gary we went over to his house for a surprise. An hour later Annie walked thru the back door and gave me the biggest surprise of my life! Good friends and secret keepers made it possible for her to fly into San Diego for a night before leaving to Miami. After repeating the surprise for my mom when we brought Annie home she pulled out her fortune from Chinese food that night. It read-"A loved one you haven't seen in many months will appear at your doorstep soon." Still gives me chills to type it out. Thank you for giving me something to search on the internet Anjuli! I could (and frequently do) spend hours looking at your photos and reading your blogs. I'm so thankful for the opportunity to keep up with your life, even if it is just thru the internet. Say hi to Sam for me! Love you both :)October 22, 2010 - 11:21 pm

Miriam Maneevone - Life is filled with random events, each random event is a facet in the multitude of puzzle pieces that somehow come together to form a broader tapestry of life. Somehow in God's scheme of things they fit together for His glory and reflect a bit of Himself- He pulls all the random events together and we one day see His plan even in seeming random events of life.Sometimes- it just keeps us humble so we can appreciate that he is sovereign and altogether good ... and He loves us through it all.October 22, 2010 - 4:47 pm

Jennifer - I only eat the cream part of Oreo's and toss the rest.October 22, 2010 - 1:57 pm

danielle - hands down my most embarrassing moment is when i totaled my bicycle by crashing into a parked car...and i just laughed out loud remembering that just now!October 21, 2010 - 7:47 pm

Alyss - If you like Regina Spektor, you may also like Ingrid Michaelspn, if you haven't heard of her yet. Both of those ladies keep me sane in the car when Jude is freaking out! Oh, and I feel bad that my first comment is on the day that you are giving away a prize, but I had intended on commenting anyways after one of your posts a few times ago. After reading about how much comments meant to you, I wanted to send you some love and words of encouragement. So instead of being random like you asked, I'll stick to my original intention of being encouraging... You kick butt as a mom. It's obvious just by looking at photos of your boys. We all just rally and survive by the skin of our teeth as moms. Keep on loving on those boys and all the other things will fall into place. Praying for you little mama!October 21, 2010 - 4:55 pm

Larissa - I love how your most beautiful posts with the most killer pics elicit 10 comments at most, but the shot at an itunes $10 gift card has already drummed up 35 and counting. Sorry this is the first time I've commented as well. I just found that amusing, and no, I don't want the gift card. Ok well maybe, but only if you insist.October 21, 2010 - 12:15 pm

Doug Snitgen - Often the result is uneven spacing above and below the non-locked text.October 21, 2010 - 11:23 am

malina - i want a zhu, zhu pet. I have a terrible fake accent. i have very low food safety standards (Thanks to my mom) but i'm OCD about clean floors(thanks to Joe's mom). Thanks for such a lovely random set of thoughts anj, life is so funny sometimes.October 21, 2010 - 11:16 am

Mary Rose - my sisters and i used to read "scary story treasury" by alvin schwartz and think it was so dang scary. i randomly found it today in boarders 70% off rack- um, not so scary and really easy reading. hmmm. :)October 21, 2010 - 10:38 am

Katherine - I was unemployed from August 1st until last week. No kids, no friends, no job, yet somehow I am still here trying to completely move us into our apartment in two days before my parents visit, so they'll think I did it three months ago. Also, rutabagas are not big turnips, but it will save you 20 cents per lb to claim so at the check-out. At least it will if you come through my check-out line.October 21, 2010 - 10:38 am

Rena Frey - When we were little, my dad didn't let us have Barbies because he didn't want us to have body image issues. We got Cabbage Patch dolls instead. :)October 21, 2010 - 8:02 am

Scott Tullius - How this for random: (None of this is a lie either) Last night I had a dream that the worlds population was being executed by robots. Specially designed droids were after me and I narrowly escaped a restaraunt/opera house before they killed everyone. We lived in a building that was 5000 stories tall, but had to move underground to evade the scanners that flew overhead. Some other highlights that were in the dream: A baby on a roller coster, driving with a motorcycle gang, two huge prides of lions attacking each other (but not me and my dogs) and crazy girls that were professional street light dancers.October 21, 2010 - 5:41 am

Paige - I bought a red polka dot bandana meant for dogs on a pet supply website this week. It's for me.October 21, 2010 - 1:08 am

MaryBeth - Yesterday I felt like a dishrag. Today was better. I believe it has something to do with Air Supply and productivity. (Anjuli - LOVE you! )October 21, 2010 - 1:07 am

Natalie - One weekend I ran around barefoot with a friend. She's a lot like Pocahontas. Anyways, I walked to all my classes on Monday barefoot. All day. My feet were dirty.October 20, 2010 - 11:31 pm

Jen VanderStoep - i love you...no randomness, it all cooked out in the 80 pounds of sweet potatoes, 22 cans of coconut milk, and 33 onions today. but i love you.October 20, 2010 - 11:29 pm

whitney harvey - oooooh my gosh, i am laughing out loud at rissa's comment. i don't know her or her turtle Speedbump (and my normal reaction to a pet death story would not be laughing) but seriously?! that's so random. turtles cough? i got nothin' right now. can't wait for the unveiling of the new blog/website/name...yay!October 20, 2010 - 9:20 pm

Brooke - I check your blog everyday and we don't even know each other. I LOVE the way you write and admire how you capture every emotion. I just wanted to let you know, I am listening. Keep it coming!October 20, 2010 - 9:13 pm

Mercedes - Well here goes my randomness. My husband and I just bought our first home....crazy, stressful, fun, messy, romantic, exciting, and disorganized. It's amazing the things you learn about yourself when you're living out of boxes. You get your necessities out of boxes: toothbrush, underwear, shampoo, soap, and blankets (cause it's been cold). We aren't even half way unpacked, and yet I don't miss anything else. What the heck is in those other boxes. I obviously don't need what's in them, and yet we packed it all up and moved it the 15 miles from our old house in Vista to our new House in Historical Escondido. HHHMMMMMMMM....I'll let you know if I find anything interesting!!!!October 20, 2010 - 5:05 pm

Mackenzie - love regina. "we listened to it twice cause the DJ was asleep..." oh, and love you too :) new blog & website & NAME?!?! the anticipation is killing me! and this piece of information makes me realize how long its been since we've hung out. SAD FACE. 21. i learned today that i haven't paid the registration on my car in 2 years. oops.October 20, 2010 - 4:58 pm

Dan Clark - Arrived here courtesy of a Mr. Upson tweet. My random comment (in commemoration of your new name?) is that "photorangephotography" is an anagram of "Gather a hot gryphon poop."October 20, 2010 - 4:38 pm

erin - i've been secretly stalking your blog since chico mentioned it on fb a couple months ago because a) you and wanida and i went to efcc together [but you wouldn't remember me], and b) i love photog blogs. random: the rule at our house is (at least, for the small person), you are allowed to eat dry food (like cheerios) off the floor, but not wet food, and you are allowed to eat off the floor but not out of the dustpan. [full disclosure: i try very hard to keep my floors clean.]October 20, 2010 - 3:30 pm

Hollie - I put the milk away in the cupboard instead of the refrigerator last week and didn't realize it for two hours. Seven kids running around your house will do that to you. :) And I LOVE Regina. She is so amazing! One of my favorite lines from her: “If you eat all the apples from the knowledge tree bowl, the fact that they're plastic shouldn't deter you at all. Just grab your Sharpie and write your message on the wall: I was here, yeah, I was here." – Begin to HopeOctober 20, 2010 - 3:21 pm

renes - While on vacation at the beach I still check up on my favorite orange Wednesday! So you changing the name...so Orange Wednesday won't be so Orange anymore? I just went to check on Chloe and Walle who were supposed to be napping to find out that Walle just climbed out the pack n play! Jogged in the rain with hubby yesterday...romantic and wet it was! Cancelled a shoot due to rain, cabin fever for the kids, found 3 sand dollars on my walk with Chloe this afternoon, wondering when I'll shoot another wedding again...hmmm...did I tell you that I once ate a dog in the country side in the Philippines...yes it was the one I was playing with a few hours before, saw my friends from Uganda on Monday, so what do sand dollars look like when they are alive? oh wondering if kid #3 is in the near future, where is the Lord going to take my photography? I really want to travel the world with my camera and capture the work He is doing...I heard tattoos are painful...oh must sign off now, I hear the train outside. :)October 20, 2010 - 3:11 pm

Anita - I have a zhu-zhu pet sitting on my desk at work, and push its nose when I get bored to confuse my coworkers as to what is making those sounds.October 20, 2010 - 3:06 pm

Leonie - My car door works, and I, in fact, have my oil changed on a regular basis. I don't like the rain, because it means I have to change my wiper blades again (and that this typically means a lack of sun). I am so organized, I could probably find a receipt from two years ago in my colored coded files. I am constantly trying to lose ten pounds, but I keep letting the veggies go bad and buying more ice cream. I am capable of eating 2 bites of ice cream and putting it back. I always fold and put away my laundry immediately (or close to it). I can make amazing soup from scratch, but have no one to not like it. I don't have bunk beds, because there is no one to sleep in them. I don't cry much, because I keep my emotions in check. I seem pretty put together, but really...I am not.October 20, 2010 - 2:51 pm

Liz - I don't really consider myself OCD, but I can never have the volume on anything (tv, radio, etc) on a random number. It MUST be a nice round number such as 10, 20, 25 etc. Is that weird? Also, my car smells like vomit as well since two weekends ago (yes I've been enduring the smell for two weeks) my boyfriend drank too much wine and hurled all over the passneger door. Yeah....October 20, 2010 - 2:43 pm

Lisa - so..I've never written on here before but felt compelled to contribute since I do read your Orange Wed. every week so here goes my randomness..I have my second bad cold in 2 weeks and was embarrassed when my husband told a coworker about how I Put Kleenex up my nose to stop it from running, yes that's right I'm weird. I use to try to hide it from him but I figure he might as well accept it he is married to me. Oh and I work at Starbucks and I secretly hate it when people make comments about the weather (which is just about everyday):)October 20, 2010 - 2:37 pm

Katy - 1. it takes me an hour to fall asleep every night too. literally an hour. i read every night. 2. regina spektor's song "gonna be worth it" got me through the last two years. 3. at one of my baby showers, someone spelled my son's name wrong on the cake. 4. i don't think i'm going to top the girl who eats hot dogs with mayo, but i kind of have a complex with toilet seats. it doesn't matter where i am but i have to wipe them off. anywhere - my house, my mom's house, my friends' homes, i take two squares of toilet paper and wipe the seat down. i'm just nervous nellies about sitting on pee.October 20, 2010 - 2:22 pm

Veronica - love your randomness.. if you haven't already fallen in love with the song "you dont know me at all" duet of regina and ben folds.. its darn good stuff :) my random comment: I truly want to be shakira, not just look like her, but sing and dance like her.. she is so cool! (and yes i posted this on facebook today but i really want to be)ps. when i was little i wanted to be a spanish girl.. my goodness i have issues :)October 20, 2010 - 1:28 pm

cara johnson - I am still reading :-) I havent been able to see my couch for a whole week because it too has 5 loads of clean laundry that are waiting to be folded and put away...and still waiting...we have even been sitting on the floor to watch TV at night because we don't want to put the clothes away! As for something random...I used to eat playdoh, and dog biscuits when I was little :-)October 20, 2010 - 1:16 pm

megan - i have had 5 hot dogs in the past 4 days w/ mayo and lost a pound. yipee hot dog diet! :)October 20, 2010 - 1:14 pm

megan - Love love LOVE Regina!!October 20, 2010 - 1:09 pm

wanida - correction: i called it an old homeless man's blanket. he'd make an excellent linus. and you'd make an excellent sara groves. (and just like that... i just pulled myself out of the scum and onto your favorites list!). wearing h&m today, almost ordered toms last night. your powers over me...October 20, 2010 - 12:52 pm

Jennifer - Is it EVER OK to tell a woman that she looks huge?October 20, 2010 - 12:49 pm

Christina - I am a complete white girl, yet in junior high, while trying to figure out "who I was", I hung out with a lot of mexican girls. Thus, to be cool and fit in, I used to try to dress like them.. I wore hideous lip liner, and i would put mousse in my hair like they did, except their hair always had some sort of curl to it and my hair was the whitest blonde you can imagine and straight as a book.. picture a blonde white girl with stringy, crunchy hair. yup. and i have a Starshot to prove it. Man, I've come a long way. :)October 20, 2010 - 12:43 pm

Karly - Thanks for another little window into your life. I think what I love so much about it is the rawness and reality that comes with being a working wife and a mother. I have had many of your same thoughts on numerous occasions. Here is my little random comment: I just learned that if you mix Mylanta and cornstarch together you get this amazing remedy for diaper rash....it works wonders!!!! Happy Wednesday!October 20, 2010 - 12:33 pm

jessica - i've been waiting for your post! =) regina spektor, i've always loved 'the call' in chronicles of narnia. a new name??? woah, cant wait for that! what can be better than photorange? random fact..i'm looking into catering professionally! =)October 20, 2010 - 12:28 pm

Erin - 1. I walked into STAPLES today and my heart felt so warm looking at school supplies. I bought some pens that I didn't need. 2. I'm obsessed with Band of Horses right now. Regina's pretty amazing too 3. I struggle with what to wear to work everyday-- I try on different shirts, shoes, pants and don't put them back in the closet. I throw them on a chair instead. Everyday the pile of clothes on my chair gets bigger and bigger. I hate THAT pile of clothes. 4. I love your boots. 5. I look forward to Wednesday's to read your blog. I appreciate your honesty. I think I need to be more honest with myself sometimes.October 20, 2010 - 12:27 pm

Suzanne Schaffner - Am still reading...love it. If you like Regina you might also like Sia, Fiest, and Frou Frou. I've tons where that came from.October 20, 2010 - 12:20 pm

Sonya Kemp - Glad you found Regina, love her. Glad I'm not the only one stepping over loads of clean laundry (at least it's clean, right?!--and I've got 4). Glad someone else finds themselves searching online, but for what? Glad you have friends that you can be blessed and challenged by. You do it for so many every week. And finally, glad you are launching a new blog. Can't wait to see it. My random comment: Enjoying all things pumpkin; pancakes, lattes, cookies, frozen yogurt, yes you can even get pumpkin frozen yogurt!October 20, 2010 - 12:11 pm

Crissi - I am splitting the ends of my hair while I think of what I did that made my boyfriend break up with me and desperately wishing he would change his mind.October 20, 2010 - 12:09 pm

rissa - i once had a turtle named Speedbump who choked to death on some dirt after coughing for 24 hours.October 20, 2010 - 12:08 pm

A. Carol - Anjuli: I love you! Thanks for sharing your randomness. If you need to get/shampoo smells out of car carpets, let me know and I'll tell you what I have learned.October 20, 2010 - 12:05 pm
